More than any other animal, the swan, gliding effortlessly across a pond, its elegant neck held high in a graceful arch, epitomizes serenity, grace and beauty.

Perhaps this is why so many myths and legends have featured these exquisite birds:

Unfortunately, the reality is very different!

Only yesterday, a Chicago man was mercilessly attacked by a swan until he drowned.

In England, swan attacks are quite common.  For example,  a swan who relentlessly attacks boaters on the Grand Union Canal is so notorious he has even been named – appropriately enough, Tyson.

So the next time you see a stately swan, remember one thing – KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!
